Allergies are the result of your immune system’s response to a substance. Immune responses can be mild such as coughing to life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis. Basically, allergic reactions begin in your immune system. When a harmless substance such as dust, mold, or pollen enters our system a person who is allergic drives his or her immune system to react by producing antibodies that attack the allergen. The resulting symptom caused varies from wheezing, sneezing, runny nose, watery or itchy eyes.

The purpose of the immune system is to defend itself and keep microorganisms, such as certain bacteria, viruses, and fungi, out of the body. It simply declares war against any infectious microorganisms that try to invade the body. Thus it is of paramount importance that our body’s immune system remains strong because allergies can happen to anyone, regardless of age and gender.

Some of the different ways to boost the immune system are the following:

  • Eating a well balanced diet
  • Getting enough sleep to recuperate
  • Regular exercise
  • Regular hydration
  • Take lots of vitamin c
  • Eat fruits and vegetables
  • Increase your bioflavonoid intake
  • Meditate
  • Keep a positive attitude
  • Keep the company of happy friends
  • Clean your surroundings
  • Have a sense of humor

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be good for your allergies. While it won’t cure them completely, it can minimize symptoms and also improve overall health conditions. Sometimes it is psychological rather than physical, and what we feel or think at any given moment manifests itself in our bodies.

Bottom line is our tolerance to allergies increases as we strengthen our bodies’ immune system and the way to do that is to keep a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercises and keeping a positive attitude definitely are the foundations of a strong body and mind. Having a sense of humor, or having fun at all times boosts our immune system ten-fold.

Lifestyle changes contribute a lot too, like staying away from vices such as alcohol and cigarettes. Getting enough sleep, hydrating 24 hours a day and simply cleaning your surroundings greatly increases our energy. In effect, increasing the immune system requires a healthy lifestyle but does not in any way prevent or rid of our allergies entirely.

Although allergies are a nuisance to live with there are many treatment options available. Strengthening you immune system is perhaps the first step to a better you.
