How Eco-Friendly is Cottonique?

Cottonique believes that recognizing the annual environmental movement is more than just a one-time initiative. For us, taking good care of your skin and safeguarding the environment through allergy-free organic cotton clothing is a lifelong commitment.

Let's face the naked truth.

Shopping for new clothes isn't entirely sustainable. Each day, the global apparel industry tiptoes on huge mountains of serious overproduction issues, propagated by a "sell more, buy more" culture where clothes have become mere "objects of economic value."

According to EarthDay.Org, behind every piece of clothing in a store, there is an industry "stripping the Earth of its limited resources and exploiting the labor force that works in its garment factories."

"Cheap production and lowered costs for consumers, along with the influence of social media, have produced an avalanche of cheap clothing. Fast fashion production is based on a model of ‘take-make-waste’, designed to be worn and discarded within a short period of time," they added.

The tremendous waste from the $2.4 trillion apparel industry depletes healthy soil, contaminates fresh water sources, pollutes the air we breathe, defiles our oceans, destroys forests, and damages eco-systems, the group stressed.

Every piece of glitzy and glamorous clothes that we purchase from fast-fashion brands, we become part of industry that tolerates greenhouse gas emissions, microplastic pollution in oceans and wastewater, cutting down of forests to keep up with production demands.

However, aside from the popular "Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle," you can do so much more than just to protect the environment. With environmental impacts like carbon emission contribution, pesticide and insecticide reliance, and use of synthetic fibers, it's high time that we start being more careful and eco-conscious about our clothing choices.

Reduce your wardrobe’s impact on the planet by wearing our allergy-free organic cotton clothing, made without harmful chemicals, harsh elastics, and toxic synthetics. If you're looking for an ethical clothing brand that has earth-friendly benefits, look no further than Cottonique!

Our materials and processes remain environmentally friendly and safe for people with skin allergies and sensitive skin. Here’s how:

1. 100% Organic Cotton Fabric

We buy our yarn from GOTS-certified organic cotton farms. In these areas, the water supply is not contaminated by pesticides or any other harmful chemicals or toxins.

Once the yarn arrives in our factory, we knit it and utilize a hydrothermal process to finish the fabric. As a result, we have the ability to manage product shrinkage without sacrificing fabric stretch. Moreover, Cottonique uses a special finishing method that does away with the use of parabens or formaldehyde.

This not only benefits our customers, but it also keeps the water supply from becoming contaminated. When the fabric is ready, it is taken to our in-house production facility, where clothes are then cut, stitched, and packaged.

Since our 100% organic cotton yarn and 100% organic cotton fabric have been rigorously tested, audited, and found to be in conformity with global standards, you can view and download our certificates from quality assurance providers: GOTS-C-0057455 and Certificate HKB 17239.

2. 100% Cotton Thread

Clothing manufacturers regularly use microplastic materials like polyester sewing thread to keep the garments affordable and easy to produce. However, these can be detrimental to people with skin conditions and sensitive skin.

In order to keep our customers comfortable and itch-free, we utilize 100% cotton thread on our Natural colored items. However, for the colored ones, we make use of a premium-quality, core spun thread that combines a high tenacity polyester filament core with a 100% cotton cover.

Although it's a cotton wrapped polyester core thread, the actual percentage of polyester core thread in our colored items is only a maximum of 1% per garment.

If you're wondering about the quality and safety of our 100% cotton thread,  please see OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 CertificationFor our poly-cotton spun thread, you may also view its certification here.

3. 100% Cotton Drawstrings

Did you know? Many cotton underwear brands contain rubber elastic around the waistband and leg openings. Despite being hidden, this latex elastic can seriously irritate the skin and trigger life-threatening allergic reactions.

That’s where we stepped in: all of our products do not contain any form of latex. Some pieces on our wide range collection of allergy-free organic cotton bottoms are constructed with 100% cotton drawstrings that allow easy adjustment by comfortably hugging the waist without harsh elastics like latex and Spandex.

We utilize this highly breathable and comfortable material for people with ultra sensitive skin, including those where latex-free elasticized underwear/clothing is not sufficient enough to contain their allergic reactions.

4. Hypoallergenic Coco Buttons

Even the tiniest details lurking in your clothing can break your comfort. Just like other skin allergies, repeated exposure to metals and even aluminum causes skin reactions. If you think you're allergic to garments that contain metal, maybe it's time to look for garments that promise an irritation-free experience without the harmful stuff.

Instead of using metal finishing accessories, we utilize hypoallergenic add-ons to complement and strengthen the structure of our garments, like the coco buttons.

Completely natural in origin, these coco buttons are applied to our casual clothes to provide a total allergy-free experience. They're smooth, durable, and eco-friendly.

5. 100% Cotton Twill Tape

Recognized for its strength and durability, we utilize 100% cotton twill tape to bind, reinforce, and secure seams, hems, waistbands, or the edges of our our allergy-free organic cotton products. This prevents stretching, fraying, and distortion over time, giving our hypoallergenic garments stability, longevity, and easy adjustment.

Aside from this function, 100% cotton twill tape feels gentle against the skin, making it ideal for sensitive areas like neckline or waistbands. It provides a smooth and comfortable feel when in direct contact with the body, ensuring a pleasant, irritation-free wearing experience.

We use 100% cotton twill tape on our hypoallergenic products like Deborah Latex-Free Support Racerback Bra, Women's Racerback Crop Top Bra, 100% Organic Cotton Neck Protection Sleeve, Men's Henley Short and Long Sleeve Shirts, and Men's Light Organic Polo Tee. The advantages of using 100% cotton twill tape are as follows:

  • BREATHABLE: It allows air circulation, helping to keep the body cool and comfortable, perfect warm weather or for active wear.

  • ABSORBENT: It can absorb moisture from the skin or the surrounding environment, keeping the garment and the wearer dry.

  • ADAPTABLE: It works well with various sewing techniques; easy to sew or attach to the fabric. It can be easily cut, folded, and stitched into place.

Our 100% cotton twill tape has been tested for harmful substances, acquiring Standard 100 Certificate N-KEN 16028 from OEKO-TEX®.

6. 100% Compostable Packaging

Our mission to encourage eco-conscious living remains true to us, even as we place the purity of our clothing as our top priority. We are pleased to inform you that we have introduced our newly revamped "Earth-First Packaging."

This new compostable packaging features a Kraft paper top layer and an inner lining crafted from cornstarch-derived PLA material. To significantly lessen the environmental impact of your wardrobe after use, you can take the following actions:

  • Cut the packaging into strips.
  • Put the pieces into your compost pit or pile.
  • Watch me safely return to Mother Earth within 180 days.

TAKEAWAY: When you buy clothes made with organic fabrics, you're not just thinking about your comfort. You also play a small part in keeping our planet, the environment, and water resources clean, healthy, and protected.
