DIY Psoriasis Remedies

If you’re looking for a way to treat your psoriasis but you don’t have the time or the money to go to a doctor, then here are some easy fixes to your skin condition that you can do on your own:

Use petroleum jelly

In order to minimize the itchiness of your skin try using a heavy moisturizer like petroleum jelly to lock in the water in your skin and keep it hydrated.

Use apple cider vinegar

Psoriasis can also target your scalp and when that happens, one of the best home remedies for your itching head is apple cider vinegar. Apply some on your scalp a few times a week and the effect will be a soothing relief for your head. Be sure to rinse it off when it dries up otherwise it can irritate your scalp. Do not apply this if your scalp has open wounds.

Get under the sun

The sun’s UV rays can help with your psoriasis so make sure to bask under the sun for five to ten minutes at a time.

Jazz up your bathtub

Another way to help treat your psoriasis is to put in some Epsom salts into your tub and fill it up with warm (not hot) water. Otherwise, you’ll only worsen your psoriasis). The Epsom salts (you can also use Dead Sea salts) will help keep your skin moisturized. After you’re done, apply moisturizer to your skin to keep the water in.

Use turmeric

Turmeric can also help prevent psoriasis flare-ups so use some of these in some of your dishes or you can buy turmeric supplements and take them regularly.

Oats bath

One more ingredient you can use in your bathtub is oats. Oats can soothe your skin and can be an alternative to Epsom salts if you've ran out of it. You may also want to try putting in oats to your bathtub with warm water and soak in it for a few minutes. After you’re done, moisturize your skin again to keep it hydrated.

Use plastic wrap

When you’re about to hit the bed, apply moisturizer and wrap it with plastic wrap to encase the product in. This way, your skin will absorb the moisture throughout the night and you’ll be able to prevent flare-ups while you sleep.

Use Oregon grape

Moisturizers with Oregon grape as an ingredient have been shown to be effective in preventing flare-ups in people with psoriasis.

Go on a Mediterranean diet

Mediterranean diet, which includes a healthy abundance of fish and vegetables, is not just good for your overall health, but also for your skin. This kind of diet can help ease your flare-ups.

Use Aloe Vera

This plant is effective in minimizing inflammation. Look for moisturizers or creams with this ingredient. Better yet, use the aloe vera extract as it is, as long as you clean it before you use it, and as long as you do not have any known allergy to it.
